Evaluation

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The media film uses, develops or challenges forms and conventions of real media products in many ways. Firstly, it challenges conventions of real media products as we have shown that we can create things, that is not part of a convention of a thriller, yet the products is still a thriller by using a different type of surrounding. The surrounding or mise en scene allowed us to create a thriller atmosphere, something scary and psychotic. Furthermore, it challenges voyuerism. In 1 shot near the end of the opening sequence, we see a high angled shot of Samantha sitting on the floor looking at the mirror. The shot was lightened and created the sense that someone was watching her through a camera. This challenges the real media products because in most of them we always see someone watching through a television screen, a camera or the eyes of the characters. However, our opening sequence is ambiguous. This is because, as i have mentioned before, there is a shot of Samantha sitting on the floor looking at the mirror, and because of the lighting it does create a sense of someone watching her. But it alsocreates the sense that this is Samantha's character and how she sees things through her eyes. Lighting can also create the sense of voyuerism.

2) How does your media product represent particular media groups?

The media product does not represent a particular media group. The character (Samantha) is a young girl who is psychologically unstable. Her character shows a dominant ideology of a little girl who is imaginative and creative. Also, our opening sequence shows how something so small and just a doll can influence people's mind into believing things that are not reality.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

One kind of institution, i think might distribute our media product is an institution in which enjoy and have a great interest in thriller films, and an institution who are well known and are also a great success such as: twisted pictures. This would help to gain a profit for the film. In addition more people will come to watch the film then as they are familiar with the institution.

4) Who would be your audience for your media product?

Our audience would be 15 and over for both males and females. The sense of a scary and psychotic atmosphere would attract these audiences. In my opinion, i think it would be too scary for people younger than the age of 15. We created a questionnaire in which would help us to decide what we thought would be a suitable audience for our media product. We also thought that some people may not be able to relate to our product as well as our targetted audience.

5) How did you attract/address your audience?

Firstly, we created a questionnaire in which would allow us to gain an idea and understanding of what people think about thriller films. We then thought about how we could create a thriller opening sequence with a psychologically unstable character who has alot of dolls. We also used a number of different effects to create the thriller atmosphere. Furthermore, we created a questionnaire in which would help us to somehow attract our targetted audience. This is how we addressed our audience.

6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt that there are a huge amount of different programmes to use in order to edit our opening sequence. As all technologies are different, i have learnt how to use the tools of the programme effectively and efficiently. I have also learnt how to add music and special effects to create a sense of a particular genre, in this case a thriller. In addition, i have also learnt how to organise a sequence to show a dream and reality for a thriller. I have also learnt to use what we already have to solve problems and to work with the programmes rather than take the easy way out, and to start again from the beginning. Although we did have a problem with the programme we however, did produce a good well sequence product in the end.

7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the product?

I have learnt to keep enough time of planning, filming and editing. I have also learnt that it is best to have more than one idea in case one idea does not work out properly. Also, when editing, make sure that we have a long enough time to edit, in case the programme and technical equipment does not work properly. Furthermore, always keep up o date with what is going on with your group and always ask when you are not sure if you feel uncertain about something. Also, have everything continous, as it will make the footage flow better and smoother without mistakes shown on the footage.

Alice:- Final Piece (Re - edited)

Today i was not ale to go to the session. However, Samantha and Shelley edited the voice over. The voice over is now more high pitched to gain a more creepier, and a child like voice.

Final Piece - Alice

Today we finished our opening sequence. We decided to call our film Alice like Alice in wonderland. We thought that this name would create a scary but a thriller type atmosphere. We decided this from a list of names. Our list of names were:-

:- Emily
:- Candy
:- Carrie
:- Daisy
:- Sally
:- Alice
:- Sarah
:- Zahara
:- Lacy
:- Polly

When we chose the name for our final piece, i came up with the idea of someone saying the name as a voice over when the name appears. This would give a creepy sense to the audience.

Update on Editing

Today myself, Shelley and Samantha edited our film. Yesterday, Samantha and Shelley tried to edit some more, but the programme was not working properly again. All they did was put the footage in the right sequence and turn two of the shots into black and white. At this point the programme strted to play up again. They then decided to stop editing and try again the next day.

Today we started editing again and the programme was fine. Shelley turned some more shots into black and white, and also made it look like it was old age footage. This was used to show that these shots were part of a dream.

We also changed the lighting of two of the shots of Samantha twisting and turning whilst she was sleeping. This was to show that her character was having a nightmare. It was also to make the atmosphere more like a thriller.

We also tried other effects on other shots but they had no effect on those shots. We also lightened up two of the shots as they were too dark and couldn't see what was hapening in the mise en scene.

Furthermore, we added some transistions in order for the footage to make sense and for it to not look to jumpy. So we added some cross dissolves.

In addition, we added the titles. We first thought of "Apple Films Presents", but we remembered that we can not usecopyright makes. So we came up with "Clucky Films Presents" and "A Deathly Productions". We then went on to show who did what in the making of the opening. As a group we decided to show the titles in between shots. The titles are shown in red.

Today we also decided on the music.
Ernest created 5 different songs for our media film. We listened to them today and found one in which Ernest created that went with the footage. The music is slow but not too slow and is also in time with the footage. Thanks to Ernest, the music creates a thriller type atmosphere.
